About Me
I was born in Orkney and grew up in Glasgow. After studying for a BA at Queen's University, Belfast, I returned to Glasgow to take the MLitt in Creative Writing. From there, I moved down to Guildford and the University of Surrey, where I completed my PhD in Creative Writing in 2012.
From 2012-2025 I was first Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer at the University of Stirling, teaching on the MLitt in Creative Writing and serving as Programme Director among various other roles. I also had the pleasure of supervising a total of seven PhDs in that period, with three of the creative works going on to commercial publication.
In August 2025 I joined the University of Strathclyde as Chancellor's Fellow & Lythe Senior Lecturer in Creative Practice.
